Legends of the Pacific - Stories of a nuclear-free Moana migrates to Waiheke Library

Waiheke Island . . . and now our recent APMN Nuclear Free Pacific exhibition at Ellen Melville Centre has "migrated", this time across the Hauraki Gulf to the Waiheke Public Library.

Minus the striking ephemera that we displayed in the original exhibition, just the photo and display boards. But it still looks stunning.

However, it has a more crowded appearance compared to the earlier curated version due to space constraints of the library's display stand.

Del and David travelled across to the library on Tuesday and mounted the exhibits.

It will remain on display until September 10 - three days after Margaret Mills' book launch for her Anecdotage: The First 95 Years, which has a major chapter on the Rainbow Warrior (she survived the bombing night on 10 July 1985 - she was the relief cook).

First review of Eyes of Fire
While on the subject of Waiheke, the latest edition of the Waiheke Weekender has published today the first review of Eyes of Fire: The Last Voyage and legacy of the Rainbow Warrior by David Robie (published by Little Island Press in association with the Asia Pacific Media Network).

Reviewer Jenny Nicholls of The Listener notes: "Eyes of Fire is not only the authoritative biography of the Rainbow Warrior and her missions, but is a gripping account of the infiltration of Greenpeace by a French spy, the bombing, its planning, the capture of the French agents, the political fallout, and ongoing challenges for Pacific nations . . .

"If you are lucky enough to own the first edition of this classic, you will find plenty that is new here; updated text, an index, new photographs, a prologue by former NZ prime minister Helen Clark and a searing preface by Waihekean Bunny McDiarmid, former executive director of Greenpeace International."

The Eyes of Fire review by Jenny Nicholls in the Waiheke Weekender, 14 August 2025.
